A Fun Family Mini Golf Day at Greenlands Golf

Fancy getting the kids outside to experience some mini golf? We took a visit to Greenlands Golf to see what it’s all about

*We were lucky enough to be gifted a free round of golf for all our family at Greenlands Golf in return for promoting their birthday anniversary event. Despite this, all of the opinions expressed below remain our own.

About Greenlands Golf

Greenlands Golf is a part of the Greenlands Sport Club, a complex that includes a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course, a golf driving range and practice green, as well as a lawn bowls green. The jewel in the crown though is the beautifully landscaped 18 hole miniature (or mini) golf course, definitely one of the best mini golf courses in Costa Blanca. This is what I will be concentrating on here.

Alongside these sporting facilities sits a licensed bar and restaurant, with large outdoor terrace overlooking the golf.

Greenlands Golf can be found just outside Los Montesinos in the south of Costa Blanca, off the main CV-940 road that links San Miguel de Salinas with Benijofar. The course is also only a short 5 minute drive from the major AP-7 autoroute.

Of course, if golf is not your thing, you might be more interested in our best adventure activities for kids in Costa Blanca, our our best water parks for kids in Costa Blanca. Here though, we are looking at having some fun family mini golf at Greenlands Golf.

The Mini Golf Course at Greenlands

Boasting 18 good length holes, laid on good quality astroturf, the mini golf course at Greenlands feels like a tropical oasis. When you approach the course by car you would never imagine what awaits you. All around the 18 holes there has been great care taken over planting a range of attractive plants as well as creating shaded rest areas for players.

The holes themselves tend to be longer in length than some other ‘crazy’ golf courses, making the course a good challenge for players of all ages and abilities. Although there are still a selection of novelty obstacles, such as a crocodile, dragon and water jump, the focus is more on a player’s putting skill around the twists and turns of the course.

The course is well laid out and easy to navigate around. A path that follows the course means that spectators can accompany players. Playing groups are limited to 5 players and there is a 7 shot limit on each hole, all in attempt to reduce waiting time. None of this seems too strictly enforced though. The mood is generally very relaxed and friendly.

Greenlands Golf for Kids

Although not designed specifically with kids in mind, Greenlands Golf still makes for a fun activity for all the family. There is a choice of 3 different sizes of golf putter to use, meaning that even very small children can find a club that allows them to play comfortably. Kids will also love being able to choose their favourite colour of ball.

Under 4s are free at Greenlands, which is great as you don’t have to worry about having paid for them if they lose interest.

While some sections of the course may be a little difficult for smaller kids, most will be able to still enjoy the experience with a bit of help. Several of the holes have a choice of an easier or a harder route to the hole, helping to simplify the course for kids or first time players.

Of course the obstacles on the course will always be a favourite with kids. Who doesn’t love seeing their ball disappear inside a crocodile!

If doing 18 holes feels like too much all at once for kids, it is possible to take a break in the restaurant half way through the round, then resume the rest of the round afterwards (taking care to not disrupt other players by doing so).

Eating at Greenlands Golf

Overlooking the practice green and a section of the mini golf course is the bar and restaurant area, serving a selection of drinks and cooked meals. The outdoor terrace has a beautiful outlook, so it is definitely worth hanging around to get something to eat when visiting.

It is possible to buy a combination ticket for both golf and a meal or golf and a cocktail (or both!), which works out as great value.

Our Experience of Greenlands Golf

We were lucky to visit Greenlands Golf during their 4th Anniversary special event. The fact that they have remained succesful for so long shows that they are clearly doing a lot of things right. As well as playing on the mini golf course, the event also featured a live band and free drinks and canapes for players. It was a really fun day out and one that we felt very lucky to have been invited to be a part of.

We found the holes to have a good balance of fun and difficulty and while our smaller kids needed a lot of help to begin with, they were enjoying playing independently by the end.

Our kids also enjoyed playing on the practice green. This meant that we could have a rest and a well earned drink at the bar while overlooking them playing below. We split the course in 2, playing 9 holes before a rest, then finishing the other 9 holes later. I was concerned that our kids might get bored but at the end my 4 year old declared that he “loved it” and that he “wants to come back”.

Best of all for us was that being a special event they had hidden secret prizes around the course. As my daughter found one, it won us a free round and meal for another time – perfect as we all can’t wait to go back.
