Best Rainy Day Activities for Kids in Costa Blanca

Stuck inside with nothing to do? Take a look at these fun and family-friendly things to do on a rainy day in Costa Blanca…

Introduction

“Rain – what is this?” I hear you cry. This is not something that is usually associated with Spain’s Costa Blanca region. However, even though we are blessed with year round sunshine here, believe it or not it does still rain from time to time.

As many of the activities in Costa Blanca are understandably setup to take advantage of this great weather and, with it, the chance to spend more time outdoors, it can consequently sometimes be hard to find ways to entertain children on rainy days.

To help with this, we have compiled a list here of suggestions for fun and interesting rainy day activities for kids in Costa Blanca. Hopefully you can find some inspiration for things to do with your children.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat inside with the addition of something to entertain your little ones, you might want to also check out our best family restaurants with indoor play areas in Costa Blanca.

Here though, we are looking at the best rainy day activities for kids in Costa Blanca. So, if the weather is threatening to spoil your day, or indeed if you are looking to escape the sun in the peak of summer, here are some great reasons to head inside for some indoor family fun.

Rainy Day Activities for Kids in Costa Blanca

#1 Indoor Play Centre/Soft Play

Arguably the classic rainy day activity for kids. When looking for something to do indoors with children, a long time favourite for many has been a trip to a soft play, or indoor play area.

Here in Costa Blanca, there are indoor play centres distributed throughout the region. These come in all shapes and sizes. The opening times for some can sometimes be a bit erratic, so it is always best to check first before heading out.

For ideas of where to go, take a look at our best indoor play centres for kids in Costa Blanca.

#2 Trampoline Park

As well as soft play indoor centres, Costa Blanca also has a couple of trampoline parks.

These trampoline parks are great fun for filling a couple of hours indoors for kids. They offer the chance to really run around and burn off some serious energy.

Arguably the best indoor trampoline park in Costa Blanca is the fabulous Street Jump in Elche. This enormous complex houses not only a trampoline park, but also a large soft play zone and an inflatable obstacle course.

#3 Art/Pottery Session

Maybe, instead of charging around like maniacs, your children might be more interested in one of the calmer rainy day activities for kids in Costa Blanca.

Why not embrace their creative side with a children’s art or pottery session?

The excellent Paint It offers a range of art and pottery sessions from their studio in La Zenia in the south of Costa Blanca. These range from single visits to regular courses.

When we visited, our kids really enjoyed the chance to make and then decorate their own pottery item. For more about our visit to Paint It, see our review of their art and pottery sessions for kids in Costa Blanca.

#4 Museum

It could be that you are looking for a more cultural activity to keep your kids entertained on a miserable day. If so, you might be interested in one of Costa Blanca’s family-friendly museums. After all, even educational things can still be fun!

Some suggestions for fun museums to try out include the mind boggling Museum of Illusions (Museo de las ilusiones) in Alicante, or the cute Dinosaur Museum (Museo Paleontológico) in Elche.

#5 Bowling

Another timeless classic for indoor entertainment is ten pin bowling. Costa Blanca has several bowling lanes spread throughout the region. These are often found in shopping centres or cinema complexes.

The addition of lane bumpers and colourful dinosaurs to roll the ball down means that even very small children can still join in without worrying about their ball disappearing into the gutters all the time.

My kids always love a bowling trip and it is actually a pretty affordable family activity – providing you escape from the arcade games quickly on the way in and out!

#6 Cinema

Another fun indoor activity is a trip to a cinema. Admittedly, this will usually be more of an early evening thing to do than a daytime one though.

There are several cinemas throughout Costa Blanca. Obviously, being in Spain, the majority of films are shown in Spanish language versions. If you are looking for English versions (or whatever the original filmed language is), look out for VO (Version Original) or VOSE (Version Original Subtitles Español) in the movie listings.

We have enjoyed several family movies in both Spanish and English language versions at IMF cinema Torrevieja.

#7 Ice Skating

With all that sunshine outside, for a chance at ice skating you’ll have to head indoors whatever the weather.

Fortunately, for lovers of the ice, as well as the seasonal pop-up rinks that appear in the run up to Christmas each year, we also have a year round permanent ice rink right here in Costa Blanca. This is the Elche Pista de Hielo, located in the city of Elche in the centre of the region.

For anyone in the south of Costa Blanca, there is also the chance to hop over the state border into Murcia for another permanent ice rink. This is called Hielomania and is located in the Thader shopping centre in Murcia.

#8 Indoor Go-Karts

Costa Blanca is blessed with many excellent go-kart tracks to suit drivers of all abilities. For more on these, take a look at our best go kart tracks for kids in Costa Blanca. All of the tracks featured have the option of driving double karts – where a child can accompany an adult driver in a passenger seat. This means that even very small children can still experience the thrill of karting.

While usually an outdoor activity, Costa Blanca also has one indoor go kart track in Alicante, called Karting 932. This track runs a fleet of entirely electric go karts that manage to match the pace and excitement of their outdoor petrol equivalents around the tight bends of this indoor circuit.

In Summary

While you may have chosen to visit Costa Blanca on holiday, or indeed have made the move here permanently with your kids at least in part because of the consistently sunny weather, that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck for something to do on a rare rainy day.

With this fun and interesting selection of activities for children to do inside, we hope that you have found some inspiration for things to do with yours. Whether you’re hiding from the rain, or alternatively sheltering from the sun on a hot day in summer, it is always good to have some ideas for indoor entertainment ready to go.

Obviously, we hope you don’t get rain or get stuck indoors with your family when you’re over here visiting. But, even if you do, hopefully you’re now able to at least still enjoy some of these fun rainy day activities for kids, right here in Costa Blanca.
