Looking to get into the festive spirit with a family activity? Here are some of the best places to try ice skating in Costa Blanca this winter…
Introduction
Could there be a more classic family activity for Christmas time than ice skating? While we may often have warm winters and sunny blue skies here in Spain’s Costa Blanca, that doesn’t mean that we can’t join in too.
With several real ice rinks in both the region and neighbouring provinces this winter 2024, there has never been a better opportunity to give ice skating a try. All the rinks listed below provide skate hire for people of all different shapes and shoe sizes. You just need to turn up and get involved.
In addition to the real ice rinks listed below, I have also included several artificial ice rinks that are being constructed in Costa Blanca this winter. I have only listed a few of these here, but there are sure to be others. Many local towns have an artificial rink as part of their festive celebrations. Keep an eye out on local listings or our Costa Blanca Kids Facebook group for more details.

What do I need to wear for ice skating?
Warm clothes are recommended and all the ice rinks listed require long trousers and gloves to be given access to the ice. You will not be allowed onto the ice without trousers and gloves.
All of the venues listed below provide skate hire.
Best real ice skating for kids in Costa Blanca 2024
#1 Benidorm, Christmas Square
Cost: Unknown/No info available
As part of Benidorm’s annual Christmas celebrations, the Christmas Square returns this year from December 6th 2024 – January 6th 2025, with a market, fairground rides, bouncy castles, and an ice rink. It is the only real ice rink in the north of Costa Blanca.
The ice rink is open in the mornings until 2pm and again after 5pm until late. The morning sessions tend to be less busy but the evening sessions are more atmospheric with all the twinkling Christmas lights.
#2 Elche, Pista de Hielo
Cost (1 hr, if bought online in advance): 0-5yrs €5.99, 6-12yrs €10.99, 13+ €12.99
Elche, located near to Alicante in the centre of Costa Blanca, has its very own permanent real ice rink, the Elche Pista de Hielo, that is open all year round.
During the festive period, there is a special schedule with more sessions made available to the general public.
#3 Murcia, Hielomania
Cost (30 mins): €9 per person
Although Murcia is technically not in the Costa Blanca, it is close enough for people to easily access from the south of the region, so I have included it in this list.
Located in the Thader shopping centre in Murcia is Hielomania, another permanent real ice rink that is open all year round. Public general admission sessions run on weekdays from 17:15-21:15 and from 12:00-21:15 on weekends and school holidays.
#4 Murcia, FICA
Cost: €8 per person (45 mins), €9 (1 hr)
This year for Christmas a large fairground has been created at the FICA area, also in Murcia. Boasting over 30 fairground rides for thrill seekers and children alike, a real ice rink has also been created this winter.
We visited this ice rink ourselves recently and all had a great time, even my 4 year old who’d never tried it before. Sessions last for either 45 minutes or an hour and run daily until January 6th 2025.

#5 Javea
Cost: FREE (have to show flyer at ticket office)
As part of the town’s Christmas celebrations this year, Javea (or Xàbia) are hosting their own artificial ice rink to go alongside their Christmas market.
The best part is, it is completely FREE, providing you take along the flyer (below) to the ticket office.
#6 Alicante, Explanada del Puerto
Cost (45 mins): €8 per person
From 2nd December 2024 – 6th January 2025 at the pretty port front in Alicante there is a large, artificial ice rink. The setting and Christmas lights create a magical Christmas scene.
This synthetic rink claims to be eco-friendly and is constructed from 80% recycled materials. Unfortunately, reports from people who have been are that the surface doesn’t glide nearly as well as real ice.
Ice skating sessions run daily, with the rink open until December 22 from 4:00pm to 10:00pm on weekdays, 11:00am to 10:00pm on Sundays and holidays. From December 23 to January 6 the rink will be open from 11:00am to 10:00pm everyday, except with special hours on December 24 and 31 (11:00am to 8:00pm), and on December 25 and January 1 (4:00pm to 8:00pm).
#7 San Miguel de Salinas
Cost: Unknown/No info available
As I said earlier, many of the smaller towns and municipalities in Costa Blanca create small, artificial ice rinks for their own residents and visitors to use. There would be too many to list but I’ll give a shout out to my local town, San Miguel de Salinas, in the south of Costa Blanca.
Their small artificial ice rink will be open from December 11th to December 17th in the Jaime I Plaza.
In Summary
Some of us may choose to live in or visit Spain’s sunny Costa Blanca region to escape cold winters elsewhere. Even so, that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the Christmas spirit.
Why not take a break from the normal activities of the region and try something different? Ice skating is the perfect winter activity for all the family to enjoy. Even small children can learn to love it (after the first 50 times of falling over!)
With a selection of both real ice and artificial rinks available this festive season, there is no better time to give it a try. You are sure to discover the best ice skating for kids in Costa Blanca.
