introduzione

Ever dreamed of flying high like a bird over the deep blue sea below? Well now you have the chance to do just that with a breathtaking parasailing trip up into the sky, offering unbeatable views all along the beautiful Mediterranean coastline of Spain’s Costa Blanca region.

Perfect for both adults and kids alike, it’s an experience that should be high up on anybody’s fun summer bucket list of activities in Costa Blanca, whether they be a local resident or one of the many millions of tourists who visit each year.

What is Parasailing?

Parasailing involves being suspended from a parachute that is tethered by rope to a motor boat below. Participants start with a boat ride out to sea just off the coast, before having their harnesses fixed to the parachute on the boat. The rope is then slowly wound out to allow the parachute to be raised into the sky until a fixed position is reached high above the boat.

While hanging in position below the parachute, the riders are then treated to spectacular views along the coastline while the boat drives up and down in the sea below. Don’t look down!

Undoubtedly the premier operator that offers parasailing trips in the south of Costa Blanca is Marittima.

Where can I go Parasailing in Costa Blanca?

Marittima has several different locations in Costa Blanca South, with its main office being in Campoamor at the marina. From here they offer parasailing trips each year from April right through to November.

During the peak summer months they also operate kiosks at other popular beach locations in Cabo Roig, Torrevieja and La Mata. Not all activities are available at all locations (refer to their sito web per dettagli).

With over 25 years of experience, Martime has built up an excellent reputation for customer service, with a focus on safety at all times.

Is Parasailing Safe?

The experienced operators at Martime have established their reputation based on their attention to detail when it comes to safety. All riders are carefully fitted with safety harnesses before getting onto the boat, with lifejackets also offered for the short boat drive out into the sea.

The cable used to hold the parachute is also load tested as safe to use for this task.

Can Kids do Parasailing?

Yes, absolutely. Providing they are accompanied by a resonsible adult during the ride. Bambini piccoli come 4 are permitted to ride, providing they are confident and their responsible adult feels that they are capable.

The parachute usually allows for up to 3 people to ride at any one time. If just 1 adult is riding with small children though (as we were), it is possible for 1 adult to ride with 3 small children, making 4 people in total.

For any riders with reduced mobility, Martime also offer an adapted parasailing chair to allow people with a range of disabilities to also be able to experience this aerial adventure.

What does Parasailing Cost?

Parasailing with Martime costs €60 per rider. The ride in the air lasts for approximately 15 min, with the whole experience taking around half an hour.

What Other Activities do Martime Offer?

Martime offer a whole range of other water based activities besides parasailing. From April-November it is also possible to try a boat trip, jet ski or kayak hire. During the peak summer months there are also inflatable obstacle courses setup in several locations along the coastline, as well as banana boat and crazy bed rides, and pedalo and stand up paddleboard (SUP) hire.

Our Experiences of Parasailing with Martime

Honestly, we loved it. We had a slight delay on arrival due to a problem with a rider on the previous trip, but this only built the anticipation. Mum had already chickened out long before we got there so I (Dad) took our 3 eldest kids up together with me (invecchiato 8,6 E 4), while our youngest watched and shouted encouragement from the boat.

As we ascended up into the sky you really don’t get any idea of how high you’re going to feel until you’re up there yourself. Watching the boats and parachutes from the shoreline doesn’t prepare you for it. This is especially true if you look down! This might be scary for anyone with a fear of heights but we all loved it. None of our kids were scared at all, even my 4 year old son.

The views along the coast are incredible. You can see right to the Mar Menor and La Manga to the south and past Torrevieja to the north. It’s a truly unique experience that you couldn’t get in any other way.

One thing I should say is that the motion in the sky can make you feel a little sick, especially on more windy days. If you’re someone who gets travel sick, don’t eat a big lunch before riding!

While 15 minutes doesn’t sound like a long time, it felt long enough when in the air. I was ready to come down by the time we started to descend. The driver even gave our legs a cheeky dunk into the water as we were coming down, which made the kids laugh.

Complessivamente, it may seem a little expensive but it was definitely worth it. Flying high over the Costa Blanca with Martime parasailing is something that everyone should experience at least once when in the area. You won’t regret it.
